New workshop series
In partnership with the Whitehorse Public Library, the Early Learning and Child Care branch will be offering learning and development opportunities at no cost for early childhood educators working in licenced early learning and child care programs.
This series of workshops will examine responsive programming through specific areas of focus in the Guidelines and Policies for Child Care and Family Day Home Programs. Educators will engage in group discussions and hands-on activities that explore ways of supporting children’s intellectual and social development through a variety of materials and play opportunities.
We hope you can join us for one or all the following sessions:
Registration will begin one month before each workshop.

September 23, 2024: Learning through play
Explore practical strategies to incorporate learning into everyday play experiences that support children’s ongoing development.
October 16, 2024: Social and emotional learning
Learn about activities that support children’s development of social skills and emotional awareness.
November 20, 2024: Sensory play
Provide support and experiences that allow children to explore their world using their senses.
December 9, 2024: Games
Create engaging experiences through playing games that support many developmental areas.
January 14, 2025: Creative expression
Discover the world of possibility through the exploration of music, dramatic play and art!
February 19, 2025: Quiet activities
Provide opportunities for children to experience quieter moments of learning and development.
March 25, 2025: Physical literacy
Explore ways to support children’s fine and gross motor development through play!
April 28, 2025: Community involvement
Foster curiosity and connect children with members and organizations of their community.
May 13, 2025: Block play
Celebrate and promote children’s creativity through engaging block play experiences!
June 18, 2025: Environmental stewardship
Explore children’s connection and sense of personal responsibility to the land and living things.
