Wednesday, October 1, 2025 | 6 to 7:30 pm
Whitehorse Public Library meeting room (on the main floor)
The ELCC team is kicking off the It starts with a book: nourishing SEL one story at a time workshop series with a bang!
In this first workshop, educators will be introduced to some of the topics that will be covered (more in depth) over the course of the series. The session will include an overview of the CASEL framework, the role of the educator in intentionally guiding the social and emotional development of young children, hands-on activities and group discussions.
Join us as we:
- learn about the five CASEL competencies (self awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making);
- explore practical strategies to teach these competencies, including planning techniques, tools and resources;
- discuss ways of using thoughtfully selected children’s books to inspire engaging and developmentally appropriate social and emotional learning opportunities; and
- explore how to integrate social and emotional learning into other programming areas (for example, rhythm and dance and outdoor play).
Snacks will be provided!
