Culturally responsive practice in action - Animal tracking

Become an animal detective!

Join the ELCC team for a free evening of adventure as we explore the animal tracking early learning culture kit.

Tuesday, April 30, 2024 | 6 to 7:30 pm

Whitehorse Public Library meeting room (on the main floor)

Snacks will be provided.

Early childhood educators working in licensed early learning and child care programs will learn how to decipher clues and uncover the stories left to us by animal tracks through hands-on early learning activities that support:

  • connection to land and place;
  • literacy and storytelling;
  • numeracy development;
  • social-emotional development; and
  • emerging science skills.

These kits are great resources for educators to take outside with children, and provide opportunities to learn about:

  • predators and prey;
  • identifying animal tracks;
  • seasonal changes; and
  • wildlife in the Yukon.

Each culture kit includes books, resources, storytelling materials, and activity ideas that help with the exploration of local wildlife and the tracks they leave.

**One kit will be provided to each licensed early learning and child care program with an educator present at this workshop.
