Growing from me to we: empathy, feelings, and friendship

Monday, January 12, 2026 | 6 to 7:30 pm

Due to weather-related concerns, the ELCC team had to postpone our You and me: exploring empathy and social awareness workshop that was originally scheduled for December 11th. Since that time, we’ve taken the opportunity to combine its focus on empathy with our Friends and feelings: forming healthy relationships workshop to create one enriched, hands-on session: Growing from me to we: empathy, feelings, and friendship.

From understanding me, to caring about you, to building us: this is how friendships grow.

Join us for an exciting new workshop that focuses on how empathy supports children as they shift from individual perspectives toward shared understanding, and how friendships and caring actions grow alongside emotional and social awareness. Through discussion and practical activities, educators will explore ways to intentionally support this progression during everyday peer interactions, playful learning, and imaginative social experiences.

This workshop is being offered to early childhood educators currently working in licensed early learning and child care programs in Yukon.

In this workshop, educators will explore:

  • How children move from me to you to us, and how empathy supports each stage of this development
  • How friendships and helping behaviours emerge as children learn to notice and respond to others’ feelings
  • How activities that explore feelings, relationships, perspective-taking, inclusion, and cooperation also support early literacy development.

Please note that if you registered for the You and Me workshop in December, you will need to register again for this new combined workshop.

Snacks will be provided!

We have hit capacity for this workshop. Registration is now closed.
