Learning through play - block play

Stack, create, explore

Tuesday, May 13, 2025 | 6 to 7:30 pm

Whitehorse Public Library meeting room (on the main floor)

The ELCC team is hosting another learning through play workshop, focused on block play, for early childhood educators working in licensed early learning and child care programs.

As children play with blocks they enter a world of discovery, creation and endless possibilities. Blocks unlock the door to a child's imagination, offering them the chance to "build" important developmental skills while they experiment, learn and have a ton of fun!

In this workshop, educators will:

  • discover how block play helps children develop numeracy, science, literacy and executive functioning skills;
  • learn how to connect block play with specific learning goals;
  • gain strategies to foster imagination and independent thinking through block play;
  • examine how block play encourages teamwork, patience and communication;
  • explore how to set up and organize block play spaces to promote collaboration, discovery and focus;
  • engage in group discussion and activities.

Snacks will be provided.
