Listening and talking: communication and SEL
Wednesday, March 25, 2026 | 6 to 7:30 pm
Communication is much more than spoken words.
From gestures and facial expressions to storytelling and art, young children are constantly communicating their needs, feelings, and ideas. When educators learn to truly listen, communication becomes the foundation of belonging, empathy, and connection.
Join us for an engaging workshop exploring how communication shapes social and emotional learning in early childhood. Together, we will examine how learning about the many ways of listening and talking to one another supports children’s self-awareness, relationship skills, and early literacy development.
This workshop is being offered to early childhood educators currently working in licensed early learning and child care programs in Yukon.
In this workshop, educators will explore:
- How communication development connects to key CASEL competencies, with a focus on self-awareness and relationship skills.
- Practical strategies for responding to various forms of communication and coaching children through everyday social interactions.
-
How to create environments that honours multiple communication styles and builds a culture of listening for children, families and educators.
Snacks will be provided!
