Tough choices: learning to make good decisions
Wednesday, February 11, 2026 | 6 to 7:30 pm
Making decisions is not always easy
From understanding feelings, to considering others, to making thoughtful choices: this is how children learn to decide well.
Join us for an engaging workshop that builds on empathy and social awareness to explore how young children learn to make “tough choices.” Educators will examine how problem-solving, prediction, and risk-taking support responsible decision-making in early childhood, and how educators can coach children through everyday social challenges.
This workshop is being offered to early childhood educators currently working in licensed early learning and child care programs in Yukon.
In this workshop, educators will explore:
- How decision-making and problem-solving connect to key CASEL competencies, with a focus on self-management and responsible decision-making.
- Strategies for helping children learn to pause, think ahead, and learn from outcomes during play and interactions.
- Ways that everyday experiences, stories, and play-based learning can support decision-making, prediction, and early literacy skills.
Snacks will be provided!
