The Early Learning and Child Care Branch at the Yukon Department of Education is committed to implementing policies and programs that support high quality early learning and child care and improved long-term outcomes for children in all areas of their education and development.

To support that commitment we have partnered with Yukon First Nations Education Directorate and the Early Years Program to offer the ‘Understanding the Early Years’ course. After successful completion, the course will provide participants with a level one early childhood educator certificate, fulfill requirements for educators holding level 3 equivalent certificates, or count towards level certification. The course, rich in Yukon First Nations culture and history, supports the development of culturally competent early childhood educators. Coralee Buchanan is the Manager and lead for this project at the Early Years Program.

We are pleased to offer this course to a cohort of 12 early childhood educators (who currently work directly with children) in Whitehorse on May 2, 9, 16, and 23 (all full days) and a day on the land on May 29. Due to the number of seats available, we are limiting enrollment to one educator per program until the 12 seats are filled. After that we will create a waiting list. We intend on offering this course again. The course is only available in English at this time.

Additional information will be sent to those registered for the course.

Thank you for your commitment to create and grow the best early learning and child care system for the Yukon. We certainly cannot do this work without you.

If you have any questions please email earlylearning@yukon.ca.
