You and me: exploring empathy and social awareness
Thursday, December 11, 2025 | 6 to 7:30 pm
Whitehorse Public Library meeting room (on the main floor)
Have you ever noticed how tricky it can be for children (and adults!) to understand what others are feeling and to know how to respond with care?
Whether it’s navigating friendships, sharing materials, or reading social cues, developing empathy takes time, support, and lots of practice.
Join the ELCC team for a hands-on workshop designed to help young children build the foundations of empathy and caring relationships. We’ll unpack what empathy looks like in early childhood, and explore simple, meaningful ways to nurture it through everyday interactions.
This workshop is being offered to early childhood educators currently working in licensed early learning and child care programs.
Educators will explore:
- What empathy means, including how children learn to notice and care about others' feelings.
- How social awareness is a foundational piece to building friendships and nurturing caring connections.
- Practical strategies for encouraging perspective-taking and kind responses.
- Ways to use children's literature to build empathy and support early literacy skills.
Snacks will be provided!
